Polymer-metal complex based on copper(II) acetate and polyvinyl alcohol: thermodynamic and catalytic properties

In this work we obtained a polymer-metal complex by mixing aqueous solution of copper(II) acetate with PVA at certain ratio, pH the and temperature. The composition compound was determined potentiometric conductometric titration. possibility formation proved calculating thermodynamic characteristics. stability constant calculated on basis modified Bjerrum’s method. metal-polymer synthesized in ratio 1:2. IR spectroscopy scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirmed coordination polymeric ligand to copper allowed evaluating morphology features surface. catalytic activity evaluated oxidation reaction elemental phosphorus (P4) oxygen aqueous-organic media under mild conditions. Quantitative analysis phosphoric acid made photocolorimetric We found that process P4 presence Cu(PVA)2(OAc)2 is characterized maximum absorption rate, comparison Cu(OAc)2·H2O P4, yields up 97% products. yellow copper(II)-PVA proceeds through key reactions two-electron reduction catalyst intermediate phosphorus-containing products P3+ stages regeneration oxygen. Twenty-electron P5+ involves 10 redox number complexation or hydrolysis stages.
